Full Description
Made 1892. Ramrod bayonet rifle, with “V/P/(eagles head)/P” proofs on the left side of the chamber. A maltase cross is present as well (symbol used heavily by the New York Volunteer units). Breech block is dated “1884”. Standard markings on the lock plate. Illegible “SWP” cartouche on the left side of the stock. Circled “P” firing proof on the wrist. “US” marked on the top of the butt plate. “9/I/31” marked on the comb, which typically means use by the 9th New York Volunteers in the Spanish American War. Standard blade front sight and “R” marked Buffington rear. Original blue and case color finish. Wood has been lightly sanded and oiled. Butt plate has cleaning tool compartment, but has no tools inside. Later production brown leather sling. CONDITION: Metal is good overall, with mixed patina throughout. Wood has minor impressions, dents and scrapes. Bore is clean overall, with light frosting near the muzzle. Rifling is very good. Action is working as it should, with all clicks in the hammer. Sling has light wear and crazing. Antique, no FFL required in most areas.
