Made by N.P. Ames, and dated “1845” with only about 4,250 made for the U.S. Navy. This one retains its “USN” mark on the chamber. Updated to paper cartridge circa 1861, with the loading gate being an oval. Unique, breech loading design, with a side hammer. 24″ round barrel, with blade sight built into the front band. Barrel browned, with the hammer being case colored. Oiled wood stock with inspector cartouche on the left side. Saddle ring present. CONDITION: Metal is very good overall, with honest brown patina on the barrel. Brass has been lightly cleaned. Wood has light scratches and scrapes. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Antique, no FFL required in most areas.
